Cleaning Up After Your Pet—Made Easy!
Here at Humboldt Pet Supply, we’re always looking for ways to maximize pet-owner relations. As pet owners, we want our pets to have the happiest lives (though we know that it is not always the easiest thing keeping up with everything that comes up with owning a pet) and we want to make it easy for our customers to share their lives with their pets. With our Essentials lines, we aim to make living life with your pet a little easier by compiling the essential products for various occasions into easy and convenient bundles, so you’re ready for just about any occasion.
When it comes to cleaning up after a pet, there’s no one-size-fits-all solution, but there are definitely products that frequently come in handy when dealing with the messes pets are prone to make. Here, we break down some of the items we have included in our Clean-up Essentials packages.
Puppy Training Pads
While not advised as a permanent solution to indoor accidents, puppy pads are there for when you have a dog that just can’t make it outside to pee. Whether you have a puppy that is still learning how to go outside reliably, or an elderly dog that can’t hold it in like they used to, puppy pads can help reduce the damage area of unintended bathroom breaks. Super absorbent, these pads work great if you have a special need animal that lacks the mobility to make it outside to relieve itself. As mentioned, puppy pads should not be used as a substitution to actual housebreaking.
Dog Poop Bags
The ultimate necessity whenever you’re out and about with your dog. Dog poop is unsightly, unsanitary and unnervingly tedious to step on. It is important—as responsible dog owners—to clean up our dogs' waste, as it not only is an inconvenience to other people, but harmful for the surrounding environment as well (see our Dog Waste Video). We chose to include Earth Rated poop bags in our Clean-up Essentials kit as they include additives that help the plastic breakdown faster than your average plastic bag. For those looking for an even more earth-friendly bag, Earth Rated also makes starch-based certified compostable bags that are approved by The Biodegradable Products Institute.
Urine Spray
Accidents do happen. When you take what would otherwise be an outdoor animal and bring them into your home, expect there to be some spillage occasionally. For those times, we recommend having a good spray to break down stains and odor-causing chemicals. When looking for a spray, you want something that is definitely non-toxic and won’t damage the material you are spraying it on. The spray included in our Clean-up Essentials is Skout’s Honor Urine Destroyer, which made to be eco-friendly and biodegradable, quickly working to break down stains.
Litter Mat
Depending on the kind of litter you use, you may notice that cats tend to track some out of their litter box. This litter can be unsanitary and can spread the odor of cat waste outside the confines of the designated poop box. One way to alleviate this issue is to use a type of litter that is less likely to stick to paws (see our cat litter article). Another solution is to have a nice way to catch all that excess litter before your cat takes a stroll across the room. Having a porous map that will catch and retain stray litter will go a long way in keeping your home fresh and clean.
Hygiene Products
And of course, what better way to clean up your pet than a bath! Of course, the frequency of baths depends on your pet’s lifestyle, with some pets never even needing a bath, but sometimes our furballs can develop an odor that is hard not to notice. In our Clean-up Essentials kits, we chose Earthbath products because of their natural environmentally-friendly ingredients. You can have a wet dog, or, you can have a wet dog that also smells like sweet mangos. If you have a sensitive dog or just want something without the scent, Earthbath also has hypo-allergenic shampoo that is more mild and fragrance-free.
