SWEET pOTATO DOG TREATS

Lets start off spooky season with this recipe that has only six ingredients! Sweet potatoes offer numerous benefits for dogs, making them an excellent addition to their diet. High in dietary fiber, sweet potatoes can aid in digestion and promote a healthy gut, helping to alleviate issues such as constipation. They are also rich in vitamins A, C, and B6, which support immune function and overall health. The antioxidants found in sweet potatoes can help combat free radicals, potentially reducing the risk of chronic diseases. Additionally, their naturally sweet flavor often makes them a favorite among dogs, providing a nutritious alternative to traditional treats. We also added turmeric & ginger for their known benefits which include, anti-inflammatory properties that may help reduce joint pain and improve mobility. Ginger is known to aid digestion, helping to alleviate nausea and promote a healthy gut. Meanwhile, turmeric contains curcumin, which has antioxidant properties that can support the immune system and combat oxidative stress.

Ingredients

  • 1 sweet potato

  • 2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour

  • 2 Large eggs

  • 1/4 cups unsweetened applesauce

  • 1/2 in. Turmeric Root (optional)

  • 1/2 in. Ginger Root (optional)

Process

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C)

  2. Prick sweet potato several times with a fork. Cook in the microwave on high until tender, about 6 minutes. Let sit until cool enough to handle.

  3. Cut potato in half and scoop flesh into a bowl; discard skin. Mash potato with a fork or potato masher. Transfer about 1 cup mashed potato to a large bowl, saving any remaining for another use.

  4. Mix whole wheat flour, eggs, and applesauce into sweet potato in the bowl until a dough forms.

  5. GrateTurmeric & Ginger into mixer

  6. Turn dough out onto a well-floured surface and roll dough to about 1/2-inch thickness. Cut out shapes using a cookie cutter or cut dough into strips with a pizza cutter. Arrange cookies on an ungreased baking sheet.

  7. Bake in the preheated oven until crisp, 35 to 45 minutes. Cool in the pans for 10 minutes before removing to cool completely on a wire rack.
