The Honest Kitchen Cat Food

It is no secret that we love recommending fresh, raw, or canned foods to our pet parents. Moisture is a key component to a healthy, thriving pet. This is even more true with our feline friends. Cats are biologically expecting to intake upwards of 75% of their moisture through their diet (i.e. not drinking water directly). This means that a diet devoid of moisture is not only inappropriate, but can be harmful. 1 in 3 cats will develop some form of kidney disease in their lifetime. This can be attributed to the quality of their food as well as the moisture content of their food. It is critical that they are fed a moisture rich diet, with many of our customers avoiding dry food all together.

It is also no secret that fresh, raw, or canned foods can be quite costly. Our goal is always to help you make the healthiest decisions for your pet within a realistic budget. We have previously discussed the price comparisons of canned foods to raw foods, but with the new addition of The Honest Kitchen into the cat food game, we wanted to highlight them as an option as well. If using a frozen raw product doesn’t fit into your lifestyle or you’re sceptical of the safety of raw food, look to The Honest Kitchen as a wet food alternative that doesn’t break the bank.

Here we have an average price of our most popular cans as well as some of the most popular brands in the industry in comparison with the new Honest Kitchen Dehydrated Wet Food. A 4 lb box costs $48.59, but will last the average 10lb cat 32 days. In comparison, cans come at a low individual cost, but have to be fed at larger quantities. The lowest cost wet food we carry is Taste of the Wild, coming in at $1.49 per can. When we look at our monthly cost, this is where we start to see a difference. Taste of the Wild would cost $78.23 per month vs $45.55 per month for an average 10lb cat using The Honest Kitchen. This is a huge difference and the differences don’t stop at cost.

Comparing quality

Most pet foods are considered what is called “feed grade” quality. This isn’t inherently bad, but can open up (no pun intended) the freedom for brands to use lower quality product, such as in foods like Fancy Feast. The Honest Kitchen sources human grade ingredinets as well as producing the food in a human grade facility. This restricts them to use only food items that are produced and stored in a manner that would allow it to be sold to humans. These restrictions produce a fresher, higher quality product. This isn’t to say that our “feed grade” foods don’t follow similar sourcing and production standards, but they have no requirement to do so. So in Honest Kitchen, not only do you get a cheaper wet food alternative, but a higher quality one too! We always love to see the pet industry making quality, fresh, and healthy foods more accessable to pet owners.
