Champion Petfood Acquired by Mars Petcare

As many of you may have seen, Champion Petfoods is in the process of being acquired by Mars Petcare. Yes the candy company. As acquisitions go, the process will take some time. The deal will not be finalized until sometime next year, with no changes being made until the acquisition clears. We will continue to carry their brands, Acana and Orijen, for now. Champion is known for making some of the best pet food in the industry, quite the opposite of Mars Petcare. Mars brands include Eukanuba, Greenies, Iams, Nutro, Pedigree, Royal Canin, Sheeba, Whiskas, and more. All of which are some of the lowest quality foods on the market. Aside from the glaring low quality ingredients Mars uses in their products they have a history of recalls, contaminations, and more. They very much go against everything Humboldt Pet Supply stands for.

In the short term, we will be watching closely for any changes whatsoever. This is a concerning acquisition in the pet industry. No matter the brand, we are always committed in being transparent and doing our due diligence to carry only the best for your pets. If we feel the changes made compromises this promise to our customers, you can expect updates from us accordingly.

In the long term, we want to stay ahead of the curve. We will be taking feedback concerning the acquisition in order to move in a direction that both we and our customers are comfortable with. You can fill out our survey here. We have many brands that we are considering to replace Champion with, but need to ensure this change is something our customers want too. If a replacement is made, we will be wanting to replace them with another high quality dry food option. One or multiple brands that are free of byproducts, fillers, synthetic supplements, and meals. One of the brands we have been considering, Farmina, is now in stock! Thank you for working with us and being patient as we find the best course of action.
