HPS Raw Food
Our raw feeding program is almost here! We are in the last steps of the permitting process and recipe building. We wanted to outline the future of this project so customers know what the plans are. We will be formulating general grinds that pet parents can pick up in our freezer section. This food is intended as toppers or as a main part of a balanced diet, but need to have additional supplementation or whole foods added to complete. Along with our new product, we will be providing a recipe builder for our diets or any homemade diets. We are looking forward to how this all develops and grows with our customers and our community in mind.
Raw Grinds
The cornerstone of our new pet food program is our formulated grinds. These will be what is known as 80/10/10 grinds or 80% muscle meat, 10% bone, and 10% organ meat. This is considered an unbalanced diet by nutritional guidelines, but gives us a tremendous base to help pet parents build a diet from. This also allows for diets to be varietous and taylor made for any individual pets needs. The grinds can also be used as an accompaniment to any other complete diet to boost the fresh meat content. Our hopes are to work with as many local producers to create these recipes. As of right now, we are working with Eel River Grass-fed for our Grass-Fed Beef recipe. We hope to find further local producers to be able to provide a plethora of different recipes to meet all our pet’s needs. A crucial goal of this project is also to be as available and accessible as possible. This means pricing it appropriately so any pet parent on any budget can find use for our product. We believe feeding our pets good food should be accessible for everyone.
Recipe Building
Another crucial part of this project is our recipe builder. This is a paid program that partners a customer with our Certified Canine Nutritionist and superstar manager Stella to build a balanced fresh diet. Using our raw grinds as a base, we suggest a myriad of other fresh foods as well as supplements to create a balanced homemade diet. This allows us to make specific diets for any pet’s needs as well as offer a variety of fresh foods to be included in a properly nutritionally balanced diet. This can be used to build an entirely homemade diet as well, ensuring it is properly balanced. We are currently working to have a feline nutritionist trained as well. If preparing an entire diet isn’t quite your style, with our housemade grinds and complete vitamin packs like Earth Animal’s Daily Raw Vitamin or Dr Harvey’s Daily Multivitamin can help round out your homemade food with one easy scoop. We sell both of these in store as well, so we are your one stop shop for homemade diets.
The paid program would start at $40 for a single recipe formulation, giving you a shopping list of ingredients for a diet to put together at home. For $50 we will put together a formulation based on your needs (i.e. allergies, multiprotein, sensitivities, etc). This will give you more freedom in a recipe while still following nutritional guidelines. These recipes are designed for adult dogs without specialized nutritional needs (i.e. no therapeutic diets) at this time.
